Hull City fans are looking forward to the new season with glee after their team's 3-0 trouncing of Kenny Dalglish's Liverpool in their friendly at the KC Stadium on Saturday, with many believing that the Tigers could well be pushing for a Champions League spot by next May.
City, who made the Reds look terribly ordinary, scored twice before the break through Robbie Brady and Robert Koren, and rounded off a thoroughly professional thumping with a goal from Jay Simpson.
Now, manager Nigel Pearson thinks his team can go on to become the first team in Premier League history to achieve Champions League qualification whilst playing in the Championship. He said:
"We're good enough. We've got the players to do the job, and they have the will and the determination to succeed. Now we just need some kind of gargantuan mix-up with the league tables, and we'll be there or thereabouts come the end of the season."
