Ian Holloway, the gung-ho Blackpool boss, whose team were relegated on Survival Sunday following a 4-2 defeat at Manchester United, is beingly hotly tipped to leave the club in order to take over at Stamford Bridge.
It is thought that Roman Abramovich has been delighted by Blackpool's swashbuckling style, and would welcome the west countryman aboard with open arms and an open chequebook.
Carlo Ancelotti, sacked by Chelsea after their season fizzled out with a whimper, is said to have already packed his bags and booked a ticket to Fiumicino Airport and his beloved Rome. Where Roma are expected to announce his appointment on Tuesday at the Estadio Olimpico.
Although nothing has as yet been confirmed, a source related that Chelsea were disappointed in Ancelotti, and keen to welcome Ian Holloway into the fold:
"Ancelotti's done nothing this season," he said. "Apart from reach the Champions League semi-finals and give Manchester United a run for their money in the Premiership. Okay, he may have won the double last year but he's done nothing since. The man's a loser. As far as Ian Holloway is concerned, I like the cut of his jib. And he's an Englishman. I think that if Chelsea offer him the manager's job, he'll snap their hands off. Besides, he won't have as far to drive to work."
More as we get it.
