Jubilant Manchester City supporters streaming out of Wembley yesterday, had one message for big time Charlie neighbours, United: The new kids are taking over the block.
Following City's 1-0 demolition job over the mighty Stoke in the cup final - their first FA Cup win since 1969, and their first major trophy since 1976, when they won the League Cup - City fans were in combative mood.
"We beat the mighty Leicester City in the 1969 cup final with a goal from Neil Young," one crowed. "And we were told to expect more trophies. So we waited for a bit. Until 1976 to be exact, when we beat Newcastle United 2-1 in the league cup final. Then we were told that City are back. Well we're back now all right, and them rags better take notice of us. In fairness, they did tell us to be patient, and it did take 35 years, but we're back now mate! Champions League qualification and the FA Cup! Come on! When did the rags last have a season like this!"
Other City fans were equally exuberant, one telling Skoob Sports News reporters:
"Bring 'em all on! Barcelona! Real Madrid! The rags! Bayern Munich! We'll take the bloody lot of 'em! Even without Carlos Tevez! We beat the mighty Stoke City today - there's just no stopping us now! The FA Cup is without doubt the biggest prize in football! And we WON it!"
When informed by journalists that Manchester United had secured a record breaking 19th Premier League championship earlier in the day at Ewood Park, and are due to face Barcelona in the Champions League final at Wembley on May 28th, many City fans got a bit aggressive.
"Them fookin rag bastards!" one screamed hysterically at one of our team. "They've always got to go one better! The bastards! They should all just fook off back to London where they belong! The City is ours!"
United fan, Jarbo the Killer, talking from the bar of a Blackburn pub, conceded:
"The city is yours...are you fucking sure?"
Sir Alex Ferguson just keeps on winning things.
He can't help it, apparently.
More as we get it.
