image for Dunfermline Mascot Condemned After Stunt

Scottish First Division club Dunfermline Athletic have been slammed after their mascot "Sammy The Tammy" took to the field dressed as a tank and appeared to aim at rival fans before the top of the table clash at East End Park last Saturday.

Former Chief of Defence Staff Air Chief Marshal Jock Stirrup roundly condemned the stunt as "insulting to the British forces" on the grounds that , while the body of the mascot's tank simulated a classic British Challenger 1 model, the "primary armament definitely appeared to resemble that of a Type 10 Japanese Main Battle tank".

"This clearly is an insult to our armed forces and as a result there should be an immediate investigation into how such an insensitive error could have been allowed to take place".

Dunfermline FC have so far declined to comment.
