As former Premier League champions Chelsea continue their slump down the table and out of the FA Cup, there was more bad news this morning when it emerged that their most Royal - though hardly most loyal - supporter, Prince William, has decided to change his allegiances, and to follow Tottenham Hotspur instead.
The Prince, a Chelsea fan ever since they became successful again, has recently become disillusioned with matters at Stamford Bridge, and the way that Italian manager Carlo Ancelotti has led the team.
Chelsea are twelve points adrift of league leaders Manchester United, and were dumped out of the Cup by Everton last weekend. Their only realistic hope of silverware this season would be in the Champions League, but current form would suggest relegation is more likely.
William is a regular at Stamford Bridge, but his patience has now worn thin. He allegedly told friends:
"It's a dashed liberty the way that Italian fellow has treated the Blues. For the forseeable future, one shall be regarding oneself as a supporter of Tottenham Hotspur - or is it Hotspurs?"
Despite being one of the wealthiest unemployed people in the world, William is a 'freeloader' at the Bridge, and receives a free season ticket from the club.
Tottenham are two points ahead of Chelsea, and are currently keeping them out of an automatic Champions League spot.
A spokesman for Spurs told us:
"We know nothing about this report. I suggest it has been made up by some hack."
