Former sporting Superstar Eddie 'The Eagle' Edwards has landed himself a plum role as the Skiing Ambassador for the 2015 Ski Olympics which will be held in his home town of Maidstone. The plan to build four World Cup Standard ski runs has had the green light from local councillors who, like Eddie, are convinced Britain will be the new downhill destination for ski fans every winter.
Eddie himself explained to the media that had gathered at Maidstone Library for the launch earlier today.
'We've had a lot of snow over the Christmas period, and the pattern looks set to continue. Exciting times are ahead, I've secured sponsorship deals with Churchill Insurance because me and 'Churchy' fully believe in the project. People think I met Churchy on the advert but I've known him for years.
'He was actually my Ski Coach when I made the Olympics back in the 80's. Not many people know that but he's a great skier himself. Nature is a natural thing and every winter is getting longer and colder, ideal for a ski event and that's where we came in.
'We've also covered all scenarios because if it happens to be quite mild that winter in Maidstone, which it can be, we've already secured Maidstone's indoor Ski Centre 'The Chilly Factory' as backup. '
