Horror in the world of sports broadcasting today with the revelation that Andy Gray has been sacked by BSkyB, but amazingly, it wasn't clarified that the dismissal was executed over disparaging remarks made off-air about female Referee's Assistant, Sian Massey at the Wolverhampton Wanderers v Liverpool game on Saturday.
It is thought that Gray was already on a slightly sticky wicket over similar remarks he may, or may not have made in completely different circumstances last December.
But some analysts believe that Gray's sacking was a much less complex issue than one of making sexist remarks, or asking somebody to tuck his shirt in.
It is thought that Gray was actually fired when it was discovered by his bosses that he used to play for Everton and Aston Villa, and that this shocking revelation, coming on top of the shirt tucking thing, and the sexist remarks, but mainly that he is a smug, self righteous Scottish git. According to sources. Which culminated in the sacking.
Sky Sports are said to be currently looking for somebody who can talk nonsense for extended periods - preferably not in a Scottish accent - and who is handy with touch-screen technology.
