Surrey County Cricket Club have announced that they have signed W.G. Grace for this season's Twenty20 competition. The former test ace is sure to bring in a large crowd and it will be interesting to see if he can recapture the form that once made him the finest batsman in the world.
Surrey have had a couple of dreadful seasons and have begun the county season badly with a heavy defeat against Derbyshire. However, manager Chris Adams is not despondent. "Signing W.G. is just what we needed to do. He will give us a boost at just the right time. He has the big match experience and I'm sure he still has the desire."
W.G. has not been active for some time and the signing has been criticised by some. K.P. Nuts, England's star batsman said "I'm very disappointed that Surrey have opted for W.G. They should have signed me and paid me a fortune. Also, just think of the image rights he's getting with that beard! I spend a fortune on my hair and some fat old bugger with a ZZ Top beard comes in and cleans up. It's just not cricket".
Latest score from the Oval: Surrey 10 all out (W.G. Grace 0, D.G. Bradman 0, L. Hutton 0, Mrs Mavis Tickleclit 10 not out) Rutland Gasworks XI 1,000 for 0 wicket declared.
