The scene was set, Arsenal v. Barcelona. Wenger in a press conference. Messi in attendance.
Messi's scintillating form in La Liga has led to many pundits branding him the finest footballer on the planet. However, veteran gaffer Wenger, claimed that the fuss made over Messi is laughable.
When asked whether Messi was, indeed, the world's best, Wenger shrugged, and chuckled impassively.
Argentinian hothead, Lionel Messi, lashed out, last night. Incredulous, and visibly shaken, the highly-acclaimed winger declined to finish an interview.
The saga, dubbed "MessiGate", began when Arsenal boss, Wenger, refused to acknowledge that the pint-sized player was the "world's greatest."
Messi reacted furiously to the insult, and has taken to his twitter page to publiclly denounce the manager. "Wenger dsn't no what hes on 'bout" slammed the Catalonian hero.
Pep Guardiola, Barcelona manager, has played down the feud ahead of tomorrow night's clash between the two clubs. "Sometimes things are taken personally, and they are not supposed to be taken as such, but we just focus on the game and do our best to win."
Guardiola was never going to be drawn on the matter, but there is sure to be an extra punch to Messi's game, come the evening..
