England Defender And Chelsea Captain John Terry

Chelsea and England soccer defender, John Terry, told today of an anonymous hate-mail campaign apparently designed to affect his performances. "For the last several months I have been receiving poorly hand-written messages accusing me of all sorts of nonsense. I have no idea what motivates this obviously crazed individual, but to be honest, I find his or her letters are actually encouraging me to perform better and recently I have been in the form of my life," Terry told our reporter yesterday.

What Terry finds puzzling is the fact that each and every one of the letters has a pretzel inside and a United States post-mark on the stamp, "three of these letters have been sent from Washington DC, four from Camp David and a couple from some ranch in Texas," the player explained. "Obviously whoever sent the things has only limited experience of soccer although they do keep harping on about ‘a level playing field' and ‘scoring points victories'. He or she obviously takes issue with my defensive position too. The letters keep going on about how it's much better to be an offensive player. I find it all quite baffling."

The England stalwart has his own ideas as to where his assailant pools his information, "I would imagine they are following my career on the internet as a couple of the letters had mutilated headlines cut from various news and sport web pages stuck on them with selotape." The Chelsea captain added, "I scored on Wednesday night against CSK Moscow and this morning I received a quite vicious letter along with a headline from shootagainsttheopposition.net that read, ‘Terry scores and assures success in Russia'."
John Terry also received similar hate mail after scoring in his team's victories over Paris Saint Germain of France and Porto of Portugal.

Bizarrely, Terry also received an invitation to meet his anonymous adversary at a ‘show down in Florida,' but as Terry himself states, "I don't think they go in much for soccer in Florida."

Terry has revealed today that he believes there may be a case of mistaken identity with the letters, "this person keeps saying that if I am such a tough Vietnam vet, why won't I meet up with him for this Florida thing, but I wasn't even born at the time of the Vietnam War."
