After a cup game against Halifax Town, where the scores were even after 90 minutes and in the 65th minute of injury time, Manchester United were granted special permission to bring on their 12th substitute and Sir Bobby Charlton hit the winner.

Sir Alex commented that he was happy with the referee and his time keeping and it was only a vicious rumour that the referee was intimidated by being shown a hairdryer at half time.

He said that the fact that Wayne Rooney had missed at least 9 open goals was due to the fact that he had stopped to think about something.

He did take exception however to the Duchess of York and a pop singer taking his name for personal gain. But he had been paid to advertise in a before and after advert for the NHS
