There was no shortage of drama today, ahead of this evenings champions league fixtures. Liverpool Manager Rafa Benitez claimed he could return to the playing field if the current form of his side does not improve.
"I knew we were lacking depth. With so many players out, I considered putting myself in the squad to face Fulham on Saturday. Jay Spearing and Damien Plessis are good players, but they have not played for Real Madrid B"
The 49year old who hung up his boots 23years ago for fitness reasons does not see why he could not make a George Foreman style return to the sport he loves.
"I used to play in the midfield, you know, but early on they say Rafa you are too fat, so you must retire. I think I am back in good shape now and can bring quality to the squad".
It is thought that since this announcement several clubs, including Hampton and Richmond F.C as well as Havant and Waterlooville have made polite inquiries about the availability of Rafa.
A club spokesman for Accrington Stanley also attempted to enter his club's hat into the ring.
"We could never consider bringing in Rafa in a mangerial capacity. I don't think that would work for him or us, but having studied footage of him playing for the 1979 Spain Universities IX, I think he has some assets that would be useful to our team. It is up to Liverpool though, he is after all still their player".
Although Rafa's agent could not be reached for a comment, it is believed he is open to any offer, subject to the result of tonights game.
