Browny: "It was important to get something out of the game"

It's not been easy for Hull City manager Phil Brown, and things got even harder for him today after the Football Association announced it has started an investigation into Brown's after-match interviews in which he regularly talks shite.

Brown, who took the Tigers into the Premier League for the first time in their 104-year history in 2008, has certainly made his mark in the top flight, with several incidents of note to his credit already.

A touchline spat with Newcastle manager Joe Kinnear, a can-kicking temper tantrum, and the now-infamous halftime teamtalk on the pitch at Manchester City on Boxing Day earning him the reputation of a complete tosspot in many people's eyes.

Now, however, Brown is to come under further FA scrutiny after his post-match interview with a BBC reporter descended into farce, with Brown repeatedly asserting one thing - that his side had emerged from their basement struggle with bottom side Portsmouth with 'something'.

Brown told his interviewer:

"It was important to get something from the game. We could've ended up with all three points, or with nothing. Premier League points are hard to come by, but we got a point, and kept a clean sheet. That was important. We came out of the game with something. The fans will be pleased with that. It was important to get something out of the game, and we did."

Tigers fans echoed Brown's sentiment. One told us:

"It was important to get something out of the game, and we did."

Another said:

"It was important to get something out of the game, and we did."

Albert Diehard, a City fan for more than 100 years, went further. He said:

"It was a great game. 0-0 draws are my favourite. End-to-end flowing waves of attacks are fine, but there's no fun in seeing loads of goals if your defence is weak. A good strong defensive rearguard action is what I come to see. That, and wacky team selections, and Browny never fails to disappoint with his team selections. Plus, he always talks shite!"

Some Hull fans, however, were singing from a different hymn sheet. One moaned:

"We were crap. Get Browny out. He talks shite."
