image for Manchester United awarded Premiership Title

In a surprise move, the Football Association has taken the unprecedented move of awarding Manchester United the Premiership title even with a number of matches still to go in the football season.

Following the United win against Portsmouth, the news was announced over the tannoy system much to the joy of the fans.

"To be honest, we are all a bit fed up of this so called race. United has had a difficult run of late with Everton cheating them out of the FA Cup, so we had a chat with Sir Alex and all agreed that this would be a lovely gesture to the club", stated Ian Watmore, Chief Executive of the FA today.

The power that United seem to hold over the FA has been raised as a concern over the last few years however this recent move has caused some to suggest that Sir Alex is actually "pulling the strings" of the lead organisation.

Rafa Benitez is said to have been weeping since the announcement.
