image for Ipswich announce Keane is number one target for manager

Championship football club Ipswich Town are rumoured to be targeting Keane as their next manager, following Jim Magilton leaving the club to "travel the world".

The idea that 3 piece piano rock combo Keane are thought capable of managing a football club, is something of a surprise to the football world, and is being questioned by a number of pundits.

Match of the Day host Gary Lineker was quoted as saying "I just don't think that Keane are up to it. Franz Ferdinand could carry it off and I would definitely put the King of Leon up there as well. But Tom Chaplin (lead singer) has never proven himself at that level and the spell Richard Hughes (drummer) had at Chester City was a disaster".

In related news, Girls Aloud signed a new contract which will see them continue to manage Preston North End through 2013.
