David Beckham, the LA Galaxy star currently on loan to AC Milan, is this morning the subject of further transfer speculation, after it was reported that he was involved in a secret conversation with Inter Milan boss Jose Mourinho at the weekend.
Mourinho, boss of Milan's city rivals Inter, allegedly spoke to Beckham after the game, indicating that they might both, at the start of next season, be "Chelsea players".
Their clandestine conversation was overheard by one of the Inter players in the tunnel after they won the game 2-1. Mourinho is the ex-Chelsea boss who had been rumoured to be on his way back to the Premier League, albeit with Manchester City, but the Special One is known to be in almost-constant contact with executives at Stamford Bridge, and would relish the prospect of renewing his battles with Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson and Liverpool's Rafa Benitez.
Despite having being a childhood Manchester United fan, Beckham has confessed to close friends he has always had a hankering to pull on the blue Chelsea shirt, especially after his infamous spat with Ferguson at Old Trafford in 2003, when the latter struck the midfielder in the eye with a boot.
Beckham has never forgotten the incident, and with Mourinho once again at the helm at the Bridge, Becks would clearly see his future out at the top challenging for further honours.
Chelsea, for their part, have denied any interest in either Beckham or Mourinho.
