image for Pietersen Modest in Defeat
Vaughan - I'll show them how not to score runs!

England cricket captain Kevin Pietersen is playing down England's pathetic performance in the 50 over match against Mumbai.

Set only 222 to beat, England slumped to one of its most humiliating defeats ever by being bowled out for 98!

The team batting sheet is mainly in single figures with the top score being 24 by Graham Swann.

Pietersen himself led from the front with a magnificent duck.

Pietersen says he is happy with the side now, and that it is starting to put in the type of performances that English cricket fans are used to.

Pietersen continued "I think some people were worried that after taking a Test off South Africa and winning the One Day series that we were beginning to play a little above our standards. But now that we have had a bit more time together as a team we are really beginning to play the kind of cricket our loyal fans have come to expect."

The news that Michael Vaughan is back training with the team shows that the captain and management are not going to let those standards slip.

Kevin Pieterson is 15.
