Confusion reigned at the Emirates Stadium this morning after it was announced that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger had walked out of the club just hours before the Gunners' biggest Premier League game of the season so far, against Hull City at the KC Stadium.
Wenger had become irritated over media suggestions that his young inexperienced side lack conviction, and at the continued confusion over the proposed signing of Andrei Arshavin. At the end of an exhausting training session, the Frenchman stormed off the London Colney training ground without waiting for his chauffeur, and strode off in the direction of St Albans.
Eyewitnesses say he looked stroppy.
He stopped off at the Sopwell House Hotel for a French cognac with a pie and chips, before setting out once again, this time on a bicycle he had stolen from the hotel bikeshed.
Wenger was spotted by shoppers in St Albans High Street, and then again by a motorist on Redbourn Road, as he passed the Batchwood Golf and Tennis Centre.
It's not known where he was heading, but club officials say that they are not worried, as impulsive French folk often get a bit stroppy and go for long reflective strolls.
