image for Chinese Rickshaw Driver Aims For Marathon Gold

A Beijing rickshaw driver has set his sights on Olympic gold in the unforgiving marathon event vowing not only to win the race but also to pick up fares as he conquers the gruelling 26 mile course.

Speaking through an interpretor Xing Zu Pang says he's confident of winning and also hopes to make a few extra dollars in the process.

"I'm very confident" he said of his preparation "even if I pick up an overseas tourist which means I'll have to go the long way then pretend to get lost I still think I can win"

The 44 year old entrepreneur claims his X factor lies in being acclimatised to local conditions
"The pollution is very very bad" he said adding that his rickshaw will also be operating as an ambulance service for fellow competitors who most believe will drop dead five minutes after starting.
