They say imitation is the highest form of flattery. If so the Boston Red Sox are the most shameless flatterers in Majoer League baseball.
The New York Yankees have won 26 World Series Championships, the most successful in all of sports. The Boston Sux sequiturs have achieved a personal record 2.6 WSC's. The same imitatio Yanquis has been achieved in the stats of American League Championships: New Yorkers 39; Boston 3.9. First place finishes: Bronx Bombers 43; Red Sux 4.3.
The latest embarrassing mimicry is inspired by a corporate sponsor and Major League baseball. The All-Star game this year is in the legendary House That Ruth Built in its last year. Baseball pauses to honor the greatest home field in the history of sport. Except that a hair brained publicity stunt plans to have David Ortiz, Boston's Big Puppy imitate a historic and probably apocryphal episode.
Ruth is said to have promised a little boy in a NY hospital to dedicate a home run to him. When Ruth came to the plate, he is said to have pointed dramatically to the outfield stands. The next pitch, legend has it, landed deep into the seats - the promised homerun!
For flush with cash corporate sponsors and corrupt Major League baseball, cheap imo Big Puppy will the latest rip off of a high quality brand!
