With one day to go before the transfer window slammed shut, the longest running transfer speculation (since Ronaldo joined Real Madrid)has been completed. After the press conference, a source close to Gareth Bale revealed to Sly Sports why the transfer had taken all of the long hot summer to finalise.
"Well, I tell you boyo, the reason was Gareth wanted to learn Spanish so he could say 'hola' to the loyal Real Madrid fans. Everybody knows they come out in force to welcome new signings, and it took him six weeks of listening to Rosetta Stone before he got the pronunciation right".
Bale himself refused to comment on the delay, but the source continued "He also took elocution lessons, so in six months nobody will know he's from Wales. Which is ironic really - as in six months time when he has lost all his form, and can't get in the team, and is unhappy, he will ask the Presidente (in Spanish) if he can go back to Wales and play for Cardiff City"...
More as we get it.
