LOS ANGELES - Lakers Coach Mike D'Antoni is devastated at the fact that his super star player/coach Kobe "Vino" Bryant is out for the rest of the season due to an Achilles heel injury, an Adam's apple bruise, and inverted ear drums.
D'Antoni sat in his office talking about how badly he wanted to make the playoffs for Kobe, Steve (Nash), Pau (Gasol), Metta (World Peace), and the Laker Girl cheerleaders.
Mike was asked by Sporting Chance Magazine writer Sherwood Frisbee about his idea of having Kobe participate in the Laker games as the team's DFTS (Designated Free Throw Shooter).
The coach of the purple and gold boys put down his bottle of Grape Gatorade and remarked that he plans on calling up NBA Commissioner David Stern and running that idea by him.
D'Antoni noted that although it has never been done in the NBA before, he is confident that the commissioner will go along with his plan seeing as how the Los Angeles Lakers are his favorite team and Stern would do anything to see them in the playoffs.
SIDENOTE: Sherwood Frisbee managed to talk to Bryant and he asked him how he felt about D'Antoni's idea. Kobe's eyes lit up and he said that he would be willing to do it even if he has to do it while wearing a cast and on crutches.
