A solid - if at times unconvincing 1-0 win over West Bromwich Albion has given under fire Chelsea interim manager a superb start to March - and at the same time in line for the newly created 'Chelsea March Manager Of The Month Award' sponsored by the Spoof and DorkSport Radio.
Chelsea ended February with a 2-0 win over Middlesbrough in the FA Cup, but Benitez self-combusted at the press conference, complaining about blues fans who called for him to be sacked during the match ad displayed 'RAFA OUT' banners.
The Spoof and DorkSport Radio decided to commemorate the unique role of the Chelsea managers job with the brand new award, and the surprise win over WBA, courtesy of a goal from Demba Ba, puts Benitez in pole position. The win was extra special as Andre Villas-Boas and Roberto De Matteo have both been sacked by Roman Abramovitch in the last 12 months after defeat to West Brom.
The West London club will face Steaua Bucharest home and away in the Europa League, Man United in the FA Cup and West Ham and Southampton in the Premier League before the end of the month.
With Benitez's role as interim manager literally 'hanging by a thread' Avram Grant, Mark Hughes, Jose Mourinho, Guus Hiddink and Nigel Adkins are all waiting for a phone-call to come in and be Emergency-standby-caretaker-interim manager on a 14 day money back trial basis.
Mourinho, Hiddink and Grant have all occupied the SW6 hot-seat before, while Hughes spent a short spell as a player at the Bridge, and is currently available after being sacked by neighbouring QPR. Adkins is the outsider of the bunch, but he's available after being sacked by Southampton and doubles up as the sponge man. Fans could sing "Who needs Mourinho - we've got the physio"
