PLAYA DEL REY, California - Phil Jackson, 67, has won two NBA championship rings as a player with the New York Knicks, six as a coach for the Chicago Bulls, and five as a coach with the Los Angeles Lakers.
And now the ex-coach known as the Zen Master for his love of Eastern philosophy and Crab Rangoon has just presented his long time girlfriend Jeanie Buss, 51, with an engagement ring.
The stunning ring is reportedly made up of a diamond that was brought back from the moon by astronaut Neil Armstrong.
Miss Buss, who is the daughter of Lakers owner Dr. Jerry Buss, as well as being the team's executive vice-president of business operations told Sports Balls Illustrated Daily's Rufus Reno that she was beginning to wonder if her left ring finger would ever have a ring on it.
Jeanie, who is madly in love with Phil The Pill, as she affectionately refers to him, said that she said yes before Phil had even finished asking her the question.
Jackson, who calls Jeanie The High Priestess of LaLaLand, told Reno that he and Jeanie have been involved in a fabulously intimate relationship for 12 years and he figured that he better ask her to be his wife before she gets tired of waiting and goes off and marries some Hollywood celebrity.
Recently Jackson was being considered by Jeanie's daddy, Dr. Jerry Buss, as a possible candidate to become the new Lakers coach. But the job ended up going to Mark D'Antoni of the Phoenix Suns instead.
Reno asked Jackson if now that he is going to be the son-in-law of the Lakers owner if he could possibly once again find himself on the Lakers bench in the capacity of Lakers coach.
Jackson smiled, winked, and did a thumbs up sign.
SIDENOTE: There is no one in the entire city of Los Angeles who was more excited to hear of the Jackson-Buss engagement than Jack Nicholson, who is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the Los Angeles Lakers number one fan.
