Some Blokes Getting Stuck In In 2009

CARRINGTON - Man United insiders have revealed that Man United are to model their Premiership title charge on the team who finally booted them unceremoniously out of European competition.

Athletic Bilbao.

Sir Alex Ferguson offered no excuses for his team's lacklustre performances against the Spanish outfit, and came out with resounding praise for the Basques' work rate.

United insiders revealed that they were alarmed by Bilbao's tenacity and determination, which left United players looking like spectators at the San Mames stadium on Thursday night.

"They ran about a lot and tended to get stuck in," a senior United coach revealed. "And it isn't easy trying to play football against opposition who run about a lot and get stuck in like what they did. We can take a lot from this meeting. Forget all about Barcelona and their crisp passing and subtle off the ball runs - we're gonna go at it like Bilbao. Starting at Wolves on Sunday. We've briefed the team in the fine art of running about a lot, getting stuck in, and having a bladder at goal whenever the opportunity arises. If we can play like that, we'll give anbody a run for their money. Including Barcelona."

In related news, Dimitar Berbatov and Jonny Evans expressed dissatisfaction as they failed to be named in the squad, and Tom Cleverley is considering his future at Old Trafford after being appointed United's official mouse catcher.

Ryan Giggs is said to be "gutted and sick as a parrot."

More as we get it.
