Last summer seems a couple of lockouts ago. Back then we recall seeing Rajon Rondo meeting with Chad Ochocinco and Bill Belichick at one of their early practices.
Of course, at that time Rondo was not sure where his athletic future would take him. He was talking about going back to college. Now in Los Angeles in March, he admits the school he was thinking about was Belichick U.
Yes, those tips Ochocinco gave Rondo at their meeting were to convince the Celtic that he could play for the Patriots-or maybe not.
Though Rondo took a ball with him after that practice, he also took the notion that he could transform into a wide receiver. It took a call to his agent to set him straight. Apparently, his contract with the Celtics would have not allowed him to be a two-sport athlete.
Those days, it seems, have gone the way of the Hula Hoop and Nerf ball.
What Rondo did not reveal until this week before trade deadline that he was buddy-buddy with another fashion plate of the first order-and we don't mean Ocho.
Tom Brady came out with the stars on Sunday afternoon to sit courtside rooting for the Celtics. It would appear that Rondo would have given Wes Welker a run for the ball.
Tom sat in his best "Man in Black" duds, complete with black horn-rimmed glasses. Talk about attitude. He wore Rondo's eyeglasses.
Worse yet, the NBA refused permission for Rondo to wear dark glasses during the Lakers game to help deflect the bright lights of the Staples Center from injuring the eye that was poked on Friday. What a shame. Everyone else at the Center had on dark glasses, and Rondo could have done his Garbo imitation.
As for those passes from Brady to Rondo, they may have to stay in the hoop dreams of Boston fans.
If Rondo wants to guarantee that he remains in Boston past trade deadline, he has found his biggest ally: the amazing Tom Terrific of Patriot Nation. Rondo isn't going anywhere, Celtics fans.
Rondo gave an interview in which he expressed his true feelings, having been a high school football quarterback. When will we see the next game of HORSE with Tom and Rajon?
We can hardly wait for summer.
