With the New York Knickerbockers in Boston, the highly anticipated matchup of Jeremy Lin and Rajon Rondo featured more pirouettes than you will see in Swan Lake.
For the most part in the first three minutes Rondo turned Lin into a pretzel and sent him off the court for the remainder of the first quarter in foul trouble.
When the second quarter began, Avery Bradley took on Lin who promptly turned his Celtic counterpart into a pretzel with three fouls.
Rondo came out again in his famous headband, looking like Mercury with wings on his helmet. Of course, this meant that Keyon Dooling came out looking naked. Yes, someone stole Dooling's headband, which was MIA for this game.
We suspect that one size does not fit all, but in terms of heads, we suspect that Dooling and Rondo are about the same size.
After the initial strong start, the Knicks knocked the nattering nabobs of negativity and sent the Celtics swooning. But half a loaf is not a whole loaf. This game had no loaf and cooked till overtime.
Rajon Rondo came back in the third quarter to play one of his patented superstar efforts. He left Jeremy Lin in the dust. Rondo made passes to each side, behind his back, and over his head. Lin hit a few late shots to keep the Celtics honest.
Rondo ended the game with 17 rebounds and 21 assists, staggering numbers. The biggest problem during the game for him was when he lost his mouth-guard inside his under armor shirt.
Jeremy Lin made a statement; alas, it was merely a fashion statement when he wrapped a towel around his waist like a skirt and stood on the sidelines.
He wins the creative use of a towel competition with Rondo.
With another triple-double, Rondo now is the only player to have more than one; he has four.
Rondo put an end to speculation that he would be traded once and for all; he spearheaded the overtime win over those pesky Knicks, shutting up the shrill traders of Boston.
