image for Rupert Murdoch tells how he almost closed down Man United
Rupert takes a nap before his afternoon tweet.

Rupert Murdoch has revealed how he considered closing down Manchester United after recent embarrassing results, before Charlies Angel wife Wendi pointed out that he doesn't own them.

Writing on twitter yesterday he declared "Getting old, was going to close down Man United after recent poor results before Wendi reminded me I down actually own them"

The dirty digger was behind the Sky Tv bid to buy United back in the early part of the millenium, but the bid was ruled out by the Office of Fair Trading. The club was later bought by the Glazer family.

The Red Devils form has plummeted in recent months, losing to Benfica, Basel, Ajax and Athletico Bilbao in European matches plus a crushing 6-1 home reverse to noisy neighbours Manchester City in the Premier League.

Murdoch and News international closed down the News Of The World newspaper in July after the phone-hacking revelations caused advertisers to desert the publication. Despite Sun journalists being arrested in connection with the scandal, The Sun on Sunday opened last month to replace the News Of The World.
