image for Scotland join Africa Cup of Nations
"Waka Waka This Time for Africa Jimmy"

British team Scotland were last minute entries to the African Cup of Nations today, as they pursued their bid to get independence from the United Kingdom.

Scotland First Minister Alex Salmond started the ball rolling two weeks ago when he pushed Prime Minister David Cameron for a referendum.

The Scottish FA, who have openly spoke out against the Great Britain Olympic team ever since the idea of a team was announced, decided to take advantage of the forthcoming independence by applying to join the African Football Federation as they haven't qualified for the Euro Football Finals since 1996. The Africans were delighted and instigated a new rule which meant Scotland could go straight into the tournament as a wild card instead of having to qualify.

A SFA insider spoke to Skoob Sport News "The speed of this has surprised everyone, just two weeks ago Salmond put the wheels in motion for independence, and even though it's not official yet, we've been welcomed into the African Cup with open arms. Even so, we'll probably still get beat by Morocco and Tunisia".
