The annual University boat race is to be challenged by other Universities as they feel they shouldn't be excluded. Its always a two horse race but that might be made into a knockout competition.
"Its always the light blues versus the dark blues and that's the way it has to stay! It's known as the Oxford and Cambridge boat race so why change it?" Paul Browntongue of Oxford University said.
Universities across the country are thought to be discussing a knockout competition and feel its only fare that everyone is included. Janet Maneater, head of sport at Liverpool University said, "Some of my students have aked why we can't take part? In Liverpool we're used to taking what we want,"
"We'd like a chance to take part. Nottingham University doesn't have a great history so winning a boat race would be great but we'd ask if we could race on the Trent as the Thames is a bit far away," a spokesman for Nottingham University is quoted as saying.
Even the Open University would like to take part, "Our students come from all walks of life so age shouldn't stop them. I might even take part myself," seventy two year old Malcolm Sink said.
