Wayne Rooney has been offered a part in a west end show when the current football season ends and according to close friends he's considering it.
"He's out of the first three qualifying games in the European championships so yes he has time to spare. Of course he'd rather be playing for his country but I think he wants to prove to people he has a sense of humour. It's not about the money and I for one would go and see it if he was in it," a close friend said.
A stumbling block maybe that his wife Colleen gets a part in the show as well. It is rumoured the Manchester United ace will be paid a million pound a week and he wants to get his wife the same.
A worker at the Drury Lane theatre who didn't want to be named said, "The director had an idea to ring Rooney and ask and expected the phone to be slammed down. Shrek the musical is doing very well but to have a star like Rooney involved would be fantastic!"
Rooneys agent was unavailable for comment.
