T'Northern Lights

Flare are back - Due to t'solar flare today t'Northern Leets are visible as far South as Royston.

T'Northern leets are due to t'emissions of photons in the t'Earth's upper atmosphere, above 80 km (50 miles), from t'ionized nitrogen atoms regaining an electron, and oxygen and nitrogen atoms returning from t'excited state to t'ground state.

Thars ionized or excited by t'collision of solar wind particles being funnilled down and accelerated along t'Earth's magnetic field lines; t'excitation energy is lost by t'emission of a photon of light, or by t'collision with another atom or molecule.
