Washington, DC - Geologists and astronomers are reporting tonight an alarming and unexpected development about Antarctica. The Frozen Continent is missing. The glue holding Antarctica to the earth came loose, and the entire continent went spinning off into Outer Space sometime around March 21. The Space Shuttle captured some very dramatic video footage of the event.
"Antarctica was always on the edge of the map, so I guess it's no surprise it fell off. Oh well, no big loss." said astronomer Karl Saygun.
New scientific theories suggest all the continents are glued to the earth's surface. Sometimes the glue comes loose and the continent falls off. The same thing happened to Atlantis over 10,000 years ago.
"If you point a telescope due south, you can see Antarctica floating in Space. It should crash into the Moon soon. It should make a really cool crater." said the silly Dr. Saygun.
Cartographers are already making new maps of the Earth to reflect the sudden change.
"The new maps look much nicer." said Dr. Saygun. "That jagged-looking white stuff at the bottom of the map is gone. It looks much nicer with the blue."
