Houston TX-- NASA reported the successful launch of its first probe to the Land of Oz yesterday. The probe is called TOTO (Total Oz Telemetry Orbiter), and it was launched into a tornado from a base in Kansas. TOTO is sending back striking pictures and data from the mysterious Oz. The data is the first information from Oz since an amateur visited early in the last century.
The TOTO probe mapped Oz as it slowly descended to the surface. Munchkinland, The Haunted Forest and the Emerald City were mapped for the first time. Detail on the Yellow Brick Road was imaged down to one centimeter.
The probe apparently landed on a witch on the edge of Munchkinland but still continues to send data. The temperature on site was a balmy 27 degrees Celsius under bluish skies.
NASA plans a manned mission to Oz in the next decade. A visit with the present Wizard of Oz would be of immense importance to science. The trip could be one-way for any 'ozmanaut' that goes. Scientists are concerned the only way off Oz is either by hot air balloon or by ruby slippers. Code name for the planned mission is Oz SCARECROW (Oz SCince And REsearch Could Revolutionize Our World).
