A TV advert for Nutella has had to be cut because the advertising watchdog ruled it exaggerated the hazelnut spread's nutritional value. The advertisement maintains that adding it to toast can produce a balanced breakfast. Ferrero UK, the manufacturers of Nutella said it took advice from independent nutritionists.
The product claims to contain 52 hazelnuts in a jar. Oddly enough, 53 complaints have been received by the Advertising Standards Authority; one from Which? and the other 52 are from Hazelnuts themselves
Spokeswoman, Hazel Hedges of NIMBY (Nuts in my Back Yard) today told In Seine News;
"Once again we are being persecuted and maligned. First of all it was 'Topic bars' that claimed to have a Hazelnut in every bite which was only true if you had a mouth the size of the Mersey Tunnel. Now this uproar when they have the cheek to say that we can give the equivalent nutrition to a glass of skimmed milk. What is the matter with these people? Why do they always go for the nuts? I'll have you know that we nuts are going to take over the world, we're that powerful!"
"Then there's the 'mother of all insults'; the Government health warning on each Topic bar and every jar of Nutella: WARNING THIS PRODUCT MAY CONTAIN NUTS. Are they mad or are they just nutters?"
