San Francisco, CA - Not to be outdone by top scientists in London, researchers in California are working on the next big thing in green living. They are creating 'Living' buildings that will be far greater than the 'Living' buildings that are being created in the United Kingdom.
The mini buildings that are being created in the labs are impressive as they have lungs inside that can breath in emissions and contamination and then exhale clean, healthy air. Additionally, the buildings are being designed to eat garbage and turn it into compost.
The buildings will also have an outer layer that will function like human skin with a SPF 100 painted on them in order to absorb all the harmful effects from the sun.
Engineers and robotics specialists are also working on getting the buildings to walk around. If they could walk around to train stations, shopping areas, downtown areas and amusement centers, there would be no reason for people to rely on cars or buses to take them to work.
Scientists agree that they have a lot of work to do within the miniature city they are constructing to test out all their designs. One of the head designers, who spoke to us off the record, stated that they have been having a lot of glitches when the buildings start walking. They can't seem to make them glide smoothly and that could result in a lot of people cutting themselves while shaving as well as other household accidents that seem to happen only during earthquakes.
One of the more serious concerns with the 'Living' building idea is contracting illnesses. Apparently, one of the miniature buildings came down with Tuberculosis which is extremely serious and wiped out an entire city block in the mini-community before being contained and having enough antibiotics to cure the buildings.
"It was awful," stated a top scientist at the Living Building Project, "one of the buildings wound up being allergic to penicillin and we weren't able to save it in time. I can't imagine how it would be out of the lab. It could be catastrophic!"
When asked why the scientists in the United States were not partnering with the UK in all areas of the 'Living' building ideas, the US scientists stated it was because the UK is so small and has a more efficient public transportation system. They determined buildings in the UK didn't need to walk.
Scientists in both countries believe that we won't see an actual building size 'Living' building for 50 years or more. Until then, they will continue to work in the labs hoping that one day the miniature buildings will become skyscrapers when they grow up.
