image for Gordon Brown: Ode to a Leader Ode to that chap who sunk Britain

Tony was gone. It was my time to shine.
Move to the house between 11 and 9.
Go to the Queen in a fancy car.
Everyone's talking about me. At last I'm a star.

Then things got squiffy. The economy crashed,
the mistakes I made as Chancellor trashed
the economy system. All was in flames.
Some pointed fingers. Others shouted names.

I? I worked on. As the war lumbered on.
Northern Rock already gone.
The economy costing us a ton.
But still we wandered if anything could be won.

Then came reports of MP expenses.
Published by paps under false pretenses.
People wondered about my ability
To save Britain and its dire economy.

Up came the election. A very tough leg
To defeat Davey Cameron and Nicholas Clegg.
But with MPs protesting about tempers and stuff
I was beginning to feel that enough was enough.

So I lost the debate. Yeah, big deal. I lost.
Let someone else balance the numbers and cost.
Cause it's all gone tits up. Tory time again.
If you need me? Send my letters to Spain!
