image for Isle of Wight News - Derek Acorah Visits Wooton Village Hall when it's not raining

Delight and amazement were the emotions on the faces of the residents of Wooton when Psychic Superstar Derek Acorah, 60, turned up at the village hall.

"He wasn't booked," said Kathy Dewsnap, 32 of nearby Wootton village. "Apparently, he'd meant to be going to Walton, but mistyped the address into his sat-nav. We don't mind though, because he was amazing."

Acorah has never visited the Isle of Wight before, nor played a venue as small as Wooton Village Hall, giving the occasion an even more special air. On the day that Acorah turned up the village hall was meant to be hosting the fifth birthday party of Brindley Dewsnap, 5, also of Wootton, but the party was quickly abandoned in favour of Acorah doing his psychic medium show.

"He knew everything about me," said Kathy, "He knew I had a five year old son and that I worked as a classroom support assistant. I mean, how could he know these things?"

Kathy's mother, Winifred Wootton, 61, also of Wootton, had been bowled over by the sixty year old psychic. "I were bowled over," she said. "He knew that my family had lived in Wootton for a long time, an I only told him me name! That's incredible that is."

Not everybody was impressed. Stuart Dewsnap, 33, also of Wootton, was not bowled over by the incredible talent of Acorah. "We'd booked that hall for a party. Little Brindley was devastated. And I thought Acorah would be taller than he was. I mean, he looks quite tall in Most Haunted, doesn't he?"

Acorah is unlikely to be returning to the Isle of Wight any time soon, and we did not have his telephone number to ask what he thought of the day. However, for twelve people in Wooton, this is one day that they won't forget!
