image for Want to earn $$$$ and travel the world? The secret to travel writing is to be smug

Have you ever thought about leaving your boring job and travelling the world? Ever considered becoming a professional globe-trotting writer?

Well now, thanks to the wonders of the internet, millions of people are escaping the drudgery of the rat race and becoming a writer. It doesn't matter what kind of writing you want to do - travel writing, spoof journalism, or even hardcore pornography writing. It's all possible.

Two years ago, I gave up my job as a career guidance adviser and journeyed to India, where I have lived ever since, working as a spoof article writer. I get permanent sunshine, all the curry I can eat, and I get to laze around all day writing nonsense.

It is possible to earn up to $100,000 a year on some websites. Although realistically most writers only make about $1,000 a year. However, that's enough to live comfortably in the slums of Bangalore.

I share a bungalow with 12 other writers from various countries. All of us have abandoned the pain and boredom of the rat race and come here, to a near-tropical paradise. Of course it's not perfect. We have to contend with rampant dyssentry, overcrowding, poor sanitary conditions, lack of money, rodent infestations, plague and other inconveniences.

But we're happy. We can smugly claim that we are earning money doing what we love. So why don't you take those first brave steps into a new world. Give up your highly paid boring job and your mortgage, and come and live like a homeless hippy in India. You might end up diseased and poor, but think of how jealous your friends will be when you smugly tell them that you now work as a writer.

The story above is a satire or parody. It is entirely fictitious.
