In 1973, psychiatrist Nils Bejerot published the result of his studies: Stockholm Syndrome. The studies disclosed a disturbing result: emotional "bonding" between the captives and the captors in a hostage taking situation.
At a bank in Stockholm, two-machine-gun-carrying criminals took hostage four people, three women and one man, for 131 hours. In 1974, Patricia Campbell Hearst, 19, was kidnapped from her Berkeley, California apartment. Same year, Hearst announced she had joined the terrorists called SLA, and assumed Tania as her nom de guerre. She denounced her parents, but later claimed she had been sexually abused and brainwashed. SLA's principles, called 'Swahili', an acronym, was depicted by a seven-headed cobra. Swahili sounds an Arabic word, like Al-Qaida, meaning 'beaches or sea shores'. The seven principles of SLA mostly sound Arabic, especially the seventh one Iman, Arabic for faith.
She was sentenced to 35 years' imprisonment. The sentence was later reduced to two years by President Jimmy Carter. Afterwards, she was granted a full pardon by President Bill Clinton!
Hostage taking and the bonding between the two parties is not a new phenomenon; it is as old as the hills. The etymology of Ransom, money paid to free someone, dates back to Middle English. Perhaps, the first hostage taking started with the composition of some fictions now available in hard-copies whose contents have deprived human being of straight thinking. These fictitious stories have led millions of people to slaughter houses and have made man's life miserable.
When the idol-worshipper-turned-Muslim-Arab bandits raided recklessly the land of their civilized neighbors, people who believed in a sophisticated deity, still admirable, the Arab Muslim raped the women before the eyes of their fallen husbands or parents. Arabs drove these female slaves away to be sold, like Boko Haram, in slave markets. Additionally, they carried away all under puberty boys for sex. All done in the name of their religion, Islam. The Arabs continued their raid for years throughout a vast region, up to Spain, Gibraltar, Arabic, meaning "Mountain of Tariq" Arab general, 711.
The Stockholm Syndrome, before being discovered by Nils Bejerot has been functional and active ever since people of various lands, such as present Syria, were taken hostage by Arab Islamists. Now, after more than a thousand and four hundred years of captivity, we see how the defenseless unarmed posterity of the same hostages have raised the Arab warlords such as Khalid ben Walid, 592-642, victorious in over a hundred battles, to the level of a sainthood. His tomb is in Homs, Syria. Now that the bloody show of Homs is over and election is coming, let's see what Asad will do to the shrine of Walid who massacred thousands of non-Arab Syrians of Eastern Roman Empire.
At this writing, the same followers of Khalid ben Walid have taken hostage 200 school girls in Nigeria. They claim a teenager girl's place is the house of a polygamy husband who is divinely ordained to beat any of his wives if they refuse sex whenever the so-called husband wishes.
Amnesty International alleges that the Nigeria's military had been forewarned of the attack by Boko Haram. It does not matter who initiated this savagery, whether covert international intelligence agencies or Islamists. The fact is that these so-called sub-human beings can commit this type of crime anytime anywhere. They have been teaching this evil behavior in their monasteries for 1400 years.
