Robert Langdon slammed his fist down on his desk in frustration. 'Why the hell cant I finish this coffee break crossword?' he thought.
He had solved the majority of the puzzle with ease however this latest clue seemed to be evading the symbology professor. For some reason he could not name the 5 letter surname of the blankety blank host from 1979-1983.
He think laterally about the problem. Blank also meant empty or vacant, which he well knew that 'Vac' had its roots in the latin word 'Vocare' meaning to empty.

Along with most European languages, it is a descendant of the ancient Proto-Indo-European language originating in the Italian peninsula. Although it is considered a dead language, Langdon mused that many modern languages (the Romance languages) are in fact living continuations of this language
It wasn't the only word to be based in latin. Langdon mused on how many people knew a lot of latin words and had never even realised it. 'Alter Ego', 'Vice Versa' and 'Bona Fide' were well known phrases that hadn't even changed from their the ancient language origins.
Langdon recalled a lecture that he once gave on British Kings and their levels of knowledge of the language of latin. He had startled the class by entering the stage dressed as Henry the 8th, hoping to draw the students out of their clear boredom at his recent lectures.
A thought quickly entered Langdon's mind. Henry? His remarkable mind whirred with historical facts about the King - portraits, castles, wives all linked through his thought process. He then decided that the host of the famous British show was Lenny Henry, and used his Harvard Alumni pencil to write the letters in. Hang on, if that's correct, it means I was wrong about 8 across - the name of the red teletubby.
'DAMN', Langdon exclaimed loudly.
He then wept.
