Hope, Texas - Julie and Barney Thompson were about to end it all. Thirty-seven years of backbreaking work, raising four children and volunteering for everything - from helping the search for lost kids to endless spaghetti dinner fundraisers for sick friends and neighbors to burying their parents out back - all down the drain. Time had caught up with them and was about to run them over. His Dad's shotgun lay before them with two shells ready.
There was a brief knock on the door and in walked an officer from their bank, headquartered in a distant state and owned by an overseas corporation.
The banker could not help but to see what was happening right in front of him.
"Hey, you can't do that here," he said, "This place don't belong to you no more. Can't you do that in the street!"
Barney didn't even wait to put on his prosthetic leg. He jumped up with the shotgun and chased that guy out the door, down the street and into the tall grass.
