British singer Adele's second album 21 has matched Madonna's 'The Immaculate Collection' by spending 9 weeks at the top of the UK album chart.
The London based soul singer has based her career and persona on the American legend and other similarities between the two performers have emerged on a regular basis.
Like the Michigan born star, the British singer has courted controversy in her short career. While Madonna incurred the wrath of the Catholic Church by featuring Jesus and the Crucifixion Scene in the video of "Like A Prayer", Adele pushed the bounds of acceptability by appearing alongside a thong wearing Paul Daniels in the "Hometown Glory" video.
Moreover, mirroring Madonna's acclaimed 1995 portrayal of the first lady of Argentina Eva Peron in "Evita", the Tottenham based singer is to make her film debut later this year in "Harrietita", a musical adaptation of the life of Harriet Harmann, Deputy Leader of the Labour Party. Adele's next single will be a track from the musical entitled "Don't Cry For Me, Arthur Askey".
Finally, in a creepy re-enactment of Madonna's ill fated marriage to film producer Guy Ritchie, Adele has recently become involved with Jamie Earnshaw, the assistant manager of Boots film processing lab in Camden Town.
