Anna Kirkbride - AKA - Deidre Barlow, or as some folk prefer to call her 'Dreary Barlow', has been approached by Spoof Writer, Lady G. to take acting lessons after a signed petition was handed to her this week.
Lady G. collected 200,098 names on a petition which was signed by Ontarians only, who are sick and tired of Deidre's pathetic attempts at conveying emotions of any kind during her appearances on Coronation Street.
Lady. G. has offered to pay for lessons for Anna out money she earns for writing for The Spoof. She has not yet heard back if her offer is going to be accepted.
Most people approached to sign the petition, didn't need any persuasion to sign. Many admitted that they turn the volume way down, or even 'mute' the show when Deidre 'throws a wobbler'. Even with the sound 'down' or 'off' - she is painful to watch, said one Corrie fan who admitted she closed her eyes during these scenes and had her daughter 'poke her with her elbow' when the scene is over.
"We're months behind England - here in Canada," said one fan. "Blanche just died during last week's episode and so the floodgates have openend. Deidre's gone off on one! I'm just wondering how many episodes we'll have to endure Dreary's 'performances'"
Apparently most fellow cast members tend to leave the set and move out of hearing range when she starts trying to moan, cry, sob, bawl, try to show hysterics etc. for fear their own groans, or even laughter, being heard above Dreary's amateur dramatic 'performances'.
Poor Ken is usually the one stuck on set with her. Hopefully his salary is worth the 'suffering'.
Writers have been asked to 'tone down' Deidre's character because she is unable to act. Why she is still in the show is a mystery to many.
One guess is that she is doing 'favours' for some of the 'high ups' - and they don't mean - making coffee.
