Artemis Thunderberg, the reclusive poet, artist, writer and raconteur, who lives in a caravan somewhere near Glastonbury has announced that he hasn't completely ruled out the possibility that he may tour the UK again with his fabulously eccentric one man show.
Thunderberg, nowadays a sprightly 67 year old was a prominent figure in the beat generation of the 1960's, allegedly the man who coined the phrase "Swinging London" and a man credited in certain circles as the true inventor of the hovercraft.
He was linked in the popular press with such luminaries as Princess Margaret, the Kray Twins, Ronnie Barker, Screaming Lord Sutch, and Joe Brown And The Bruvvers. Sadly, his popularity waned when he became involved in a tabloid scandal involving the Duke Of Wimbledon, an heiress, a kidnapping, and accusations of sheep rustling.
Thunderberg withdrew from the media spotlight in 1971, to - as he himself described it - "develop my stage show."
It is considered by many scholars that Thunderberg - although removed from the glare of publicity - was actually the catalyst behind many revolutionary artistic and political movements, but when asked about the issue, he would quietly evade the question and instantly fade out into the background of self imposed anonymity which he had created for himself.
He continued to tour until the early 90's, usually playing in intimate venues such as the back rooms of pubs, or people's kitchens - usually when the owner/occupier was away on holiday.
In the ensuing years, he largely kept himself to himself, writing poetry and silly nonsensical articles for underground fanzines, and in later years, on internet sites.
Now it seems that Artemis Thunderberg is once more prepared to launch his public profile into the stratosphere, with a live concert tour. He told reporters:
"Yes, it's true. I may tour the nation shortly. Although I do not as yet have an itinerary. I envisage an all encompassing tour, where I shall probably undertake poetry readings, play the sitar for a bit, do a bit of painting, and probably trot out a few monologues. About moss, trick photography, stunt work and kick-boxing. I don't really know yet. I haven't worked it out."
Sounds interesting. This one could run and run.
