WASHINGTON, D.C. - President Barack Obama recently telephoned Piers Morgan and told him that he had seen him interviewing Ricky Gervais on his new CNN show Piers Morgan Tonight.
The president congratulated Morgan for stepping in and filling the size 11 shoes of the retired Larry King, who reportedly had interviewed somewhere around 43,879 celebrities, politicians, sports figures, and common folk.
President Obama said that he noticed that throughout the interview Morgan and Gervais drank several glasses of beer. He stated that he had never ever seen Larry King do that, or Jack Parr, Johnny Carson, Dick Cavett, David Letterman, or even Jay "Mr Chin" Leno.
He stated that as he lay in bed, he turned to the 'First Mama' and said that he liked the fact that Piers and Ricky looked so relaxed and appeared to be two good old chaps just having an English garden chat while drinking down some brewski's.
Michelle replied that both men were British and that apparently it is not considered bad manners for people on television in the United Kingdom to be having a beer while they're on the air.
She told her husband that she recalls reading in The Right Coast Illustrated Revue that the practice of beer drinking while on the air was fairly common especially in Northern blue collar English cities such as Liverpool, Manchester, and St. Helens.
The president told his wife that he was going to schedule a White House beer drinking party on President's Day with both Piers Morgan and Ricky Gervais.
Michelle thought that it was a great idea and asked him if she could sit in. He grinned and replied that it was just going to be three guys and that the conversation would probably get somewhat vulgar considering that Gervais makes a living out of making sharp witted remarks with a dash of venom.
Michelle stated that it was fine and that she would probably just end up going shopping at The President Millard Fillmore Mall in downtown D.C. with Jilly Biden and Hilly Clinton if she happens to be in town.
President Obama's White House President's Day Beer Drinking Party will be held on the White House lawn on February 21, at 8 p.m. (Eastern), 7 p.m. (Central). The event will be sponsored by Bud Light Beer.
