Pop singer Ricky Martin says he's delighted to be receiving an award for coming out last year.
In August, Martin finally confirmed long standing suspicions by admitting that he mimed during his last series of sold out concerts and also used a body double in some his most famous dance videos.
The Lip synching And Miming Partnership (LAMP) are to honour the singer for promoting equal rights for less talented performers.
Martin said he "was lucky to get such support when I came out in 2010. I half expected some of my fans to turn against me when they found out I wasn't the perfect pop star, but they have been amazing. I must also pay tribute to my family and close friends who also helped me through such a potentially difficult period in my life".
A source in the music business has, however, expressed major doubts over Martin's intentions to reveal that, far from having a poor upbringing in Puerto Rico, he was born into a white middle class family not far from Beverley Hills.
"Career suicide" was the expression used.
