Following the success of the 3 episode modern "Sherlock Holmes", BBC have announced that an even more up to date series will be airing later this year.
An unnamed source claims that all the characters would "accurately reflect society in the 21st century" and "would not shy away from confronting controversial issues that affect all of us today".
Its understood that the new Sherlock Holmes will be a heroin and steroid addicted bankrupt who only occasionally seeks out companionship from his only close friend and supplier Dr Watson, who himself is on a supervised methadone programme and has failed to complete innumerable detox programmes.
The modern day Sherlock Holmes, like his predecessor, will still have a passion for the fiddle, although the 21st Century version's fiddling will be in the form of insider trading on the Stock Market. The new Holmes - unlike the original character who showed the occasional interest in female clients - is fairly far down the road of transgender surgery and , once all the nips and tucks are completed, will have his name changed by deed poll to Shelley Holmes.
Holmes' housekeeper Mrs Hudson faces an uncertain future as she's 2 years into an appeal against extradition to Nigeria as the UK Government claim her real name is Mesoto Lubanza , the brains behind a global child trafficking ring.
So, all in all, plenty for the Beeb's scriptwriters to get their teeth into.
