The next concert date for Tina Turner is Feb. 4, 2011. Not so weird for a 77-year-old foxy rocker 'rollin down the river'.
The venue however is pretty unusual - it's at the Pyramids and its sponsored by Hosni Mubarak.
Appearing with Tina is the opening act Peter Frampton and his multi lingual guitar that can spit out a little Arabic when needed.
The 'do you know how I feel' guy will kick off the show with a wa-had(1), ith-nain(2), thah-lath-ah(3) licks spoken in the local dialect. Also appearing will be Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs singing, by Hosnis request, the Ray Stevens hit 'Ahab the Arab' - way past their prime but still rockin.
Old Hosni is still clinging to power and hopes to quell the unrest by providing a free concert at the Pyramids. Rock away the unrest is the idea.
Tina and Peter were already booked on the date at the Sphinx Bowl and were happy to entertain a larger crowd especially since Hosni has to cough up more of the national reserve based on spectator count.
The acoustics at the Pyramids does not carry and fans way back in the dunes may miss a bit. Nonetheless it is Tina Turner and a great show that the current government is hoping will distract the agitated masses.
