image for The Palin Gravy Train May be Grinding to a Halt
Nothing to see here folks. Everyone can go home now.

Not even 24 hours after the shooting of Gabrielle Giffords and her supporters at a Saturday event, The Learning Channel (TLC) announced that the show Sarah Palin's Alaska would not be renewed for another year.

Although it seems the decision not to renew may have been made earlier than Saturday, one has to wonder about the timing of TLC's announcing the non-renewal immediately following the tragic shooting.

This isn't a tough one to figure out though. This shooting is throwing a lot of heat Palin's way and show producers just don't want that kind of controversy, unless, of course, they can somehow make a buck off it. In this instance, taking that route would probably spell television suicide, at least if they don't wait a while before attempting to do so.

So, TLC is passing for now. Perhaps now they'll make the decision to air another show in the Palin spot. We hear Jon Gosselin is still looking for work. Dueling Gosselin shows may just be the ticket.

Moving on, Sarah Palin isn't the only Palin trying to make a name for herself over the airwaves. Just this week, Clear Channel's Mix 96.9 in Phoenix, Arizona, yes, folks, Arizona, (ironic no?) offered Bristol Palin her own talk show. Bristol, in fact, purchased a home last month in Phoenix and will move there just as soon as she legally finagles a way to take her son Tripp there to live with her without getting some flak (no pun intended) from Tripp's papa, Levi.

Again, pretty poor timing on Bristol's part or is it more a case of karma? What if Clear Channel back tracks just as TLC did due to rumors tying the shooting to the name Palin? Assuming, of course, that is the reason TLC cancelled Sarah Palin's Alaska as opposed to dumping it because ratings had never really lived up to expectations.

Will the $172,000 home she bought in Phoenix prove to be a bit difficult to unload due to Arizona experiencing one of the worst housing crises in the country? Sorry Bristol, but real estate is a tricky business these days, almost as tricky as passing yourself off as an educated person with something interesting to say.
